Black type victory for Lonhro juvenile
Two-year-old Lonhro colt Black Vanquish recorded his maiden Black type victory with a win in the Listed Thoroughbred Club Cup at Caulfield, May 2.
A winner at Flemington at his second start two weeks earlier, Black Vanquish was sent out a well-supported favourite. After settling just behind the speed in the early stages, the striking black colt moved to the centre of the track on straightening and proved too strong in the run to the line.
A homebred for the Whittenbury family’s Barree Pastoral Company, Black Vanquish is out of G2-winning Flying Spur mare Ponton Flyer, making him a full brother to Stakes winner Minnesota Shark and G1-placed Miss Octopussy.
Black Vanquish is the 52nd Stakes winner for Lonhro who is the sire of six G1 winners, among them Champion two-year-old Pierro and fellow Darley stallions Denman and Benfica.
Lonhro will stand the 2015 breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST, alongside Denman who stands at $27,500 inc. GST and Benfica ($5,500 inc. GST).
