Reset colt stakes G1 ATC Derby claim
Three-year-old Reset colt Hauraki became the 30th Stakes winner for his sire and announced himself as a serious contender for next week’s G1 ATC Derby with a dominant victory in the G2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill, March 28.
Positioned midfield by jockey James McDonald in the early stages, Hauraki saved ground along the inside turning for home before bursting through a gap at the 200m mark and going on to record a decisive win.
Bred by Darley, Hauraki is out of unraced Dehere mare Youthful Presence, making him a half-brother to G1 South Australian Derby winner Kidnapped, G2 winner Academus and Listed winner Deledio. Youthful Presence has an unraced two-year-old Bernardini filly named Vernal, foaled a Sepoy filly last spring and is now in foal to Lonhro.
Reset is already the sire of a multiple Derby winner with Rebel Raider, who claimed the G1 VRC Derby and G1 South Australian Derby, one of his four G1 winners. Cox Plate heroine Pinker Pinker, Caulfield Cup winner Fawkner and last year’s VRC Oaks winner Set Square are Reset’s other elite level winners.
