G1 Caulfield Stakes to Fawkner
After producing a slashing first-up effort when a narrow second in the G1 Makybe Diva Stakes three weeks prior, Reset’s G1 Caulfield Cup–winning son Fawkner stepped up to the 2000m of the G1 Caulfield Stakes and was simply too good for his opposition.
Jumping away from barrier four and going forward to sit behind the race leader Side Glance on the rail, Fawkner covered no extra ground until the home turn when jockey Nicholas Hall urged his mount off the rail to tackle the leading duo.
Holding off the late charge of the dual G1 winner Criterion, Fawkner's long head victory took his impressive record to 10 wins from 24 starts and over $2.8m in earnings.
With the G1 W.S. Cox Plate always being the main aim for classy grey, and with the Caulfield Stakes victory being a bonus, the Mill Park Stud sold runner will now head to the Cox Plate at his next start.
Bred by Mr Steve Bennetts, Fawkner is the second foal of G3-winning and G1-placed Danewin mare Dane Belltar who has had four to the races, all winners, including the G2 winner Tanby. Dane Belltar has a yearling filly by New Approach and has recently foaled a colt by Street Cry.
One of three G1 winners for his sire Reset, Fawkner joins dual the Derby winner Rebel Raider and the Cox Plate heroine Pinker Pinker. With 25 Stakes winners to his credit, Reset stands at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
