Medaglia d'Oro juvenile colt wins on debut
Two-year-old colt Vancouver, the first runner from Medaglia d'Oro’s second Australian-bred crop, debuted with a fantastic win in the Listed Breeders’ Plate over 1000m at Randwick, October 4.
Jumping well and assuming the lead in the early stages, Vancouver was challenged strongly by the odds-on favourite Sooboog in the straight but proved too strong, winning by more than a length.
As well as giving Darley stallions a clean sweep of the three two-year-old Stakes races run in Australia on the day, Vancouver became the third Darley-sired winner in the last four runnings of the Breeders' Plate following the win of Law (Denman) last year and Pierro (Lonhro) in 2011.
Bred by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, Vancouver is the third Stakes winner for Listed-placed Danehill mare Skates who is the dam of G1 winner Juste Momente and Listed winner Captain Coltish.
Vancouver joins three-year-old colt Nostradamus as Australian-bred Stakes winners for Medaglia d’Oro who is the sire of 11 G1 winners in the northern hemisphere including Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.
Medaglia d’Oro is standing at Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 inc. GST.
