Back-to-back Stakes wins for Sweynesse
Unbeaten in all three prior starts including the G3 Spring Stakes at Newcastle last time out, three-year-old Lonhro colt Sweynesse extended that winning run on September 27, winning the G3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) at Rosehill Gardens.
Starting the race favourite due to his impeccable form, jockey Kerrin McEvoy allowed the John O’Shea-trained colt to settle towards the rear of the field, coming wide on the turn and pulling away to win by a length margin.
Bred by Darley, Sweynesse is the first winner for the Singspiel mare Swansea, from the extended family of G1 winners Fantastic Look and Designed For Luck.
The sire of 45 Stakes winner, Lonhro has been represented by six individual G1 winners including fellow Darley stallions Denman and Benfica, as well as the Two-year-old Triple Crown winner Pierro and the Champion New Zealand sprinter Bounding.
Lonhro is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST), while his G1-winning sons Denman and Benfica stand at $33,000 (inc. GST) and $6,600 (inc. GST) respectively.
