Lonhro's record-breaking week rolls on
Lonhro capped off his record-breaking week in style when his four-year-old son Generalife continued his terrific run of form with a dominant win in the Listed Winter Stakes over 1400m at Rosehill, July 19.
On Thursday, Lonhro’s daughter Cilla’s Choice became her sire’s 156th individual winner of the season with her victory at Geelong. That edged Lonhro past the previous record of 155 individual winners in a season held jointly by Commands and Bel Esprit.
Coming off his first Stakes victory in the Civic Stakes two weeks ago, Generalife tracked the speed in the early stages of the Winter Stakes before quickly putting the race beyond doubt with a brilliant turn of foot at the top of the straight.
A home bred for Darley, Generalife is out of Stakes-placed Redoute’s Choice mare Albaicin, a multiple metropolitan winner in Sydney. Albaicin is a half-sister to Listed winner Celebrity Girl and Lonhro’s recent G3-placed daughter Lady Lakshmi.
Generalife is one of 44 Stakes winners for Lonhro whose six G1 winners include fellow Darley stallions Denman and Benfica.
Lonhro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST, alongside Denman who stands at $33,000 inc. GST and Benfica’s fee is $6,600 inc. GST.
