Medaglia d'Oro strikes again
Two-year-old Medaglia d'Oro colt Alaska became the seventh first-crop winner for his sire with an all-the-way win over 1400m at Sandown, May 7.
After jumping brilliantly, Alaska assumed control of the race early and was never headed, making amends for a luckless run at his previous start in the Listed Anzac Stakes at Flemington.
A homebred for Darley, Alaska is a half-brother to Exceed And Excel’s G2-winning sprinter Kuroshio who will stand his first season at stud this year at Darley’s Northwood Park in Victoria. Kuroshio’s full-siblings Agulhas and Believe ‘N’ Succeed were also Stakes winners, with the latter the dam of G1-winning Lonhro filly Bounding.
Among Medaglia d’Oro’s seven first-crop winners is G3-placed filly Shaumari who runs in the G2 Champagne Classic at Doomben on Saturday.
Medaglia d’Oro is standing the coming season at Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 inc. GST.
