Boban does it again
Bernardini’s G1 Epsom Handicap winner Boban posted his third Group win in succession with a dazzling last-to-first victory in the G3 Moonga Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield, October 19.
Dropping back to 1400m from the 1600m of his Epsom Handicap triumph looked as though it would be the undoing of Boban as he struggled to maintain contact with the rest of the field through the early and middle stages of the Moonga Stakes.
Still a conspicuous last at the top of the straight, Boban motored home over the concluding stages to record a neck victory.
Bred by Tony Thomas, Boban is the sixth winner but only Stakes winner for G1 AJC Oaks winner Kenbelle. Boban is now undefeated in four starts this campaign, the four-year-old gelding posting victories in the G3 Bill Ritchie Handicap and G1 Epsom Handicap prior to this win. Boban will now get the opportunity to record his second G1 victory in the Emirates Stakes at Flemington in three weeks time.
The sire of 23 Stakes winners, seven of which are G1 winners, Bernardini is standing the current breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
