Great win by Gregers
Commands filly Gregers became her sire’s 28th Group winner and staked her claim for the G1 Thousand Guineas with victory in the G2 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield, September 21.
After settling in behind the speed, jockey Chad Schofield took an inside run turning for home and Gregers dashed through to take the lead. She went on to record a narrow but impressive victory, with Street Sense filly Politeness finishing the race off well for third.
The win took Gregers' record to six starts for four wins, with her only unplaced runs being a fourth in the G1 Blue Diamond Stakes as a juvenile and her last-start fifth in the G2 Danehill Stakes.
Bred by trainer David Hayes, Colin McKenna, Brian Solomon and Andy Makiv, Gregers is the third and final foal of city-winning Canny Lad mare Satnav who was in foal to Von Costa de Hero when she died in 2011. Satnav was a sister to Yes She Can Cancan, the dam of G1 winners Ofcourseican and Gimmethegreenlight.
Commands has had an incredible affinity with Canny Lad mares, producing 31 winners from 41 runners, among them Stakes winners El Cambio, Complicate and Limes.
The sire of 58 Stakes winners, no stallion in Australia produced more G1 wins than Commands last season who had six with Appearance (3), Epaulette (2) and Commanding Jewel. He is now the sire of nine G1 winners and is standing the current season at Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 inc. GST.
