Triple Crown for Exceed And Excel
Exceed And Excel filly Guelph gave her sire a clean sweep of Sydney’s two-year-old Triple Crown with a thrilling last-stride win in the G1 Champagne Stakes over 1600m at Randwick, April 27.
The win gave Guelph back-to-back G1 wins after she claimed the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes two weeks earlier and provided Exceed And Excel with all three winners of the two-year-old Triple Crown following Overreach’s victory in the G1 Golden Slipper.
Trained by Peter Snowden and ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, Guelph became the first filly in a decade to claim the Sires’ Produce-Champagne Stakes double, in doing so emulating her paternal half-brother Helmet who claimed the double in 2011.
A homebred for Darley, Guelph is the second foal of G1 winner Camarilla, a daughter of G1 Queensland Derby winner Camarena, a sister to Watchful, the dam of four-time G1 winner and Darley stallion Sepoy.
Camarilla unfortunately died last Spring, however her colt foal by Street Cry survived and she also has a yearling colt by Shamardal.
Australia’s leading stallion, Exceed And Excel is the sire of six G1 winners including triple G1 winner Helmet, Overreach, Reward For Effort, Excelebration and Margot Did.
Exceed And Excel will stand the coming season at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 inc. GST alongside Sepoy who stands at a fee of $66,000 inc. GST, while Helmet will stand at Northwood Park at a fee of $33,000 inc. GST.
