Street Cry gelding is sire's 62nd Stakes winner
Street Cry gelding Long John announced himself as a serious contender for the major three-year-old races in the Spring, remaining unbeaten in winning the Listed Anzac Day Stakes over 1400m at Flemington, April 25.
After a debut win at Bendigo in March followed by a dominant win at Sandown over 1300m, Long John was sent out a short-priced favourite in his Stakes class debut and did not let his supporters down.
After settling in behind the speed, jockey Steven Arnold allowed the two-year-old son of Street Cry to stride to the lead turning for home and he dashed away for a brilliant three-and-three-quarter length win.
The sixth foal to race out of city-winning Night Shift mare Hosiery, a half-sister to Hong Kong G1 winner Perfect Partner, Long John is a half-brother to two-year-old Stakes winner Ribald.
Long John becomes the 62nd Stakes winner for his sire Street Cry and the second Street Cry Stakes horse out of a Night Shift mare from only five runners. He joins Metastasio and Za Moulin Rouge as Stakes winning two-year-olds by Street Cry this season.
The sire of 13 G1 winners including Zenyatta, Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense and record-breaking sprinter Street Boss, Street Cry will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST.
Street Cry currently features in issue 1 of Darley’s Digital Magazine, located on the Darley Coffee Table application in the iTunes store.
