Shoreham shows stamina
Shoreham became the 23rd Stakes winner for his sire Reset and stamped himself as a genuine G1 South Australian Derby contender with a superb staying performance in the Listed Galilee Series Final over 2500m at Flemington, April 13.
After enjoying a great run from an inside draw, jockey Chris Symons edged Shoreham in to the clear turning for home and the three-year-old gelding quickly put the race beyond doubt, going on to win by a widening three-and-a-half lengths.
In three weeks time, Shoreham will attempt to emulate another son of Reset in Rebel Raider, who won the G1 South Australian Derby in 2009.
Bred by Jim and June Anderson, Shoreham is the first foal to race out of the unraced Redoute’s Choice mare Teneales Pearl, a daughter of Stakes winning Wolverton mare Hysterical.
Teneales Pearl has a two-year-old full sister to Shoreham and is in foal to Street Boss.
The sire of last week’s G2 Karrakatta Plate winner Ms Funovits, G1 Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker and dual Derby winner Rebel Raider, Reset’s sole representative at the recently completed Inglis Easter yearling sale was a colt out of Danehill Dancer mare Kapala, sold to Pinker Pinker’s trainer Greg Eurell for $260,000.
