Vitameta posts decisive win in Gasparilla Stakes
Highly favorited Street Sense filly Vitameta became the seventh Stakes win for her sire January 12 with a decisive score in the Gasparilla Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. The filly entered off a close second in the Sandpiper Stakes over the same course in December.
The three-year-old filly settled into a contending spot in second, just on the outside of the pacesetter in the seven furlong race. With three furlongs left, Vitameta took the lead and worked hard in the stretch for the impressive win.
A homebred for Arindel Farm, Vitameta is out of Emery Board, a winner of the Go For Wand Stakes who also placed in the G3 Florida Oaks. She is a half-sister to G3-placed Secret File. The filly's second dam is G3 winner Cosmic Tiger, herself the dam of G3 winner Chilito and Jealous And Jaded, dam of G2-winning Medaglia d'Oro mare Payton d'Oro.
A talented son of Street Cry, Street Sense is still the only horse to ever complete the G1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile - G1 Kentucky Derby double. His seven Stakes winners include three Graded Stakes winners, among them recent G2 Demoiselle Stakes winner Unlimited Budget. Earlier in the week Street Sense was represented by a $1.45 million sale at Keeneland January for a yearling filly out of the mare Please Sign In. It was the second highest price ever paid for a yearling at Keeneland's January sale.
