Street Sense filly one to watch
Making her debut off the back of a length-and-a-quarter barrier trial victory at Warwick Farm at the end of November, two-year-old Street Sense filly Champagne Cath made a sparkling debut over 1200m at Rosehill on 8 December.
Sent out the favourite based on her trial performances plus the added bonus of being trained by leading conditioner Chris Waller, jockey Corey Brown took the filly to the front not long after the start and from then on she controlled the race.
As they rounded the home turn, Brown allowed the filly more rein and she extended with ease, going on to record a three-and-a-quarter length victory, setting herself up for a possible tilt at the $2million Magic Millions 2yo Classic in January.
Bred by Newhaven Park Stud and sold through the draft of Kulani Park Stud-as agent, Champagne Cath is the fourth foal of the six-time-winning El Moxie mare Mimzical, herself a daughter of the Stakes performed Beautiful Mimzar.
By the history-making Street Sense, the son of Street Cry was a dominant winner of both the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the G1 Kentucky Derby. With three yearlings on offer at the 2013 Magic Millions Yearling Sale in January and a further 10 at the Inglis Classic Yearling Sale a week later, any further success by Champagne Cath as she heads towards a Magic Millions start is sure to highlight the lots on offer.
Street Sense is standing the current southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $38,500 (inc. GST).
