Bounding away to victory
Two-year-old Lonhro filly Bounding kept her unbeaten record intact on 24 November, recording an impressive victory in the Listed Murdoch Newell Stakes over 1100m at Pukekohe, New Zealand.
After winning on debut a month prior by two lengths, the Ken Kelso-trained filly started favourite and defeated the previously unbeaten Bernardini filly Ruud Awakening by a long neck, with a further seven-and-a-half lengths to the third placed Zaragoza.
One of seven two-year-old Stakes winners for her sire, Bounding was bred by Mr M Birchall of South Australia and is the first foal out of the Darley-bred, G3-winning Exceed And Excel mare Believe’n’succeed.
Likely to now target the premier two-year-old races in New Zealand before heading to Australia, Bounding is one of 35 Stakes winner for Lonhro, who currently leads the Australian Sires’ table on individual winners.
The sire of five G1 winners including recent G1 Patinack Farm Classic winner Mental, Lonhro will be represented by 17 yearlings at the January’s Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast, while Denman, Lonhro's first G1-winning son to stud, will be represented by 14 first-crop yearlings at the sale.
The Champion sire of Australia in 2010/11, Lonhro is standing the current season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 (inc. GST).
