Mental wins G1 Classic
Lonhro four-year-old Mental stormed to victory in the G1 Patinack Farm Classic over 1200m at Flemington on Saturday to become the fifth G1 winner for his sire.
The Darley-homebred raced just off the fast early speed before overwhelming his rivals with a decisive turn of foot to sweep past Sea Siren inside the final 100m and go clear.
"He really is a high-class horse," trainer Peter Snowden said.
"He is still only lightly-raced and there is more to come from him."
Mental is the latest foal out of Intrigues, a winning daughter of G1 winner and Champion at 2 & 3 Shaybisc and a half-sister to Stakes winners Bradshaw, Asarka and Sashed, the dam of G1 winner Freemason and Listed winner Santissima, herself the dam of Listed winner Serenissima, also by Lonhro.
Mental is now scheduled to join the Godolphin Stable and campaign in the Northern Hemisphere.
Lonhro is standing at Darley Kelvinside where his 2012 fee is $110,000 (inc. GST).
