Third successive Stakes victory for Fawkner

Reset gelding wins the G3 Tab.com.au Stakes at Flemington

Lining up for his third start of his current campaign, Reset gelding Fawkner recorded his third career Stakes win, taking out the G3 Tab.com.au Stakes over 1400m, defeating last start Stakes-winning Ad Valorem four-year-old Free Wheeling.

With a solid tempo set up front, jockey Nick Hall had the grey Fawkner in second last position, but as the field rounded the home turn and the leaders started to tire, Fawkner set off after Free Wheeling who had taken the lead, going on to win the race by two lengths in impressive fashion.

Connections indicated that the gelding could back up in a week’s time in the G1 Emirates Stakes over 1600m, or could head to Perth to tackle the G1 Railway Stakes.

Bred by Mr S Bennetts of South Australia, Fawkner is out of the G3-winning, G1 placed Danewin mare Dane Belltar and becomes the second Stakes winner for the mare after her first foal Tanby won the 2011 Bendigo Cup.

The sire of 19 Stakes winners, Reset has been enjoying a very good spring carnival, siring G2 winner Vatuvei as well as the G3 winner Star Of Giselle, both Stakes winners on WS Cox Plate day.

An unbeaten, dual G1 winner, Reset is standing the current season at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST) at Darley’s Victorian property Northwood Park.
