Marketing Mix magnificent in G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes
There's no denying that Marketing Mix is magnificent on the turf, as the Medaglia d'Oro filly absolutely cruised to victory September 29 in the G1 Rodeo Drive Stakes. A multiple Graded Stakes winner, she becomes the eighth G1 winner for her sire.
Marketing Mix settled mid-pack in a spread out field for the one and one-quarter mile race. Steadily advancing throughout, the four-year-old took hold of the lead coming for the final turn and dominated in the stretch to a three length victory over the top turf fillies in the country.
A five-time Graded Stakes winner, Marketing Mix has also won the G2 Nassau Stakes and G2 Dance Smartly Stakes this year, both at Woodbine. As a three-year-old in 2011, the filly won Churchill's G2 Mrs Revere Stakes and the G3 Pucker Up Stakes at Arlington.
Owned by Glen Hill Farm, millionaire Marketing Mix was bred by Sean Fitzhenry. She is out of Instant Thought, by Kris S. The filly's granddam is Graded Stakes-placed Nimble Mind, a full-sister to G1 winner Contredance and Graded winners Skimble and Shotiche.
Marketing Mix joins an elite group of G1 winners sired by Medaglia d'Oro, who include Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra and multiple G1 winner Plum Pretty. A fantastic sire on all surfaces, Medaglia d'Oro has sired 15 Graded/Group winners overall. His success on the track is remarkable, and as a result he has become the leading commercial sire of the day, by number of sales and session toppers. His yearlings sold for as much as US$1.575 million at auction this year in the USA.
Standing the current southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $77,000 (inc. GST), Medaglia d'Oro's first crop of Australian-bred yearlings will go through the sales ring in 2013.
