Mottled makes it two

Heading to the races for only his third career start, two-year-old Street Sense colt Mottled proved a class above his opposition on July 27, breaking his maiden over 1300m at Geelong.

Fresh from an 18 week break, and having been transferred to the Victorian stable of Peter Snowden after starting his career in Sydney, Mottled settled in a comfortbale position in the run.

As the field turned for home jockey Vlad Duric allowed the colt to stride four lengths in front, before being eased down on the line to record an impressive three-quarter length victory over stable mate Chlodomer.

Bred by Darley, Mottled is the second foal to race and first winner for the Redoute’s Choice mare Stippled who comes from the international black type family of G1 performers Fitnah, No Excuse Needed, Greenland Park and Double Park.

A history-making winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the G1 Kentucky Derby double, Street Sense, the son of leading international sire Street Cry, is the sire of 12 Stakes horses from his first northern hemisphere crop, including G3 winners Castaway and Motor City, as well as G1-placed fillies Aubby K and Miss Netta.

The sire of the unbeaten Western Australian filly Sky Princess as well as placegetters Clever Boy, Calais Grey and She’s Streetsahead, Street Sense will stand the forthcoming southern hemisphere season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $38,500 (inc. GST).
