Raspberries blows them away
Lonhro’s G3-winning daughter Raspberries added another black-type race success to her record with a dashing win in the Listed Scone Cup over 1600m on May 18.
Enjoying a lovely run, Raspberries was smothered away behind horses into the straight but once able to find a clear passage, the Peter Snowden-trainee produced a dazzling turn of foot to sprint clear and go on to score a comfortable success.
Stakes placed as a three-year-old in the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes in the autumn of 2011, Raspberries stepped up to win the G3 Cameron Handicap over 1500m at Newcastle last September and added another G3 win when winning the PFD Food Services Stakes over 1400m at Flemington on March 3.
Raspberries has now won seven of her 19 starts, placing in a further five and with earnings passing $400,000 mark.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Raspberries is out of the Grand Lodge mare La Melba, herself a half-sister to the G1-winning sprinter Flavour. La Melba currently has a two-year-old filly by the G1 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, as well as a yearling filly by Champion sprinter Strategic.
Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 (inc GST), Lonhro is set to be crowned the Champion two-year-old sire this season due to the triple crown victory of the Gai Waterhouse-trained colt Pierro, adding to his Champion Sire crowning of last season.
The sire G1-winning colts Denman and Benfica, who will both stand alongside their sire at Kelvinside at fees of $33,000 (inc GST) and $11,000 (inc GST) respectively, Lonhro’s 32 Stakes winners include G1-winning mare Beaded, as well as G2 winners including Pinwheel, Obsequious, O’Lonhro and Parables.
