Bernardini and Street Cry achieve record prices
With the largest collection of elite equine flesh in one place at one time - the Inglis Easter yearling sale is the pinnacle of the Australasian sales calendar.
As the sire of four G1 winners and a further four G1 performers, the progeny of Champion three-year-old Bernardini were always going to be in high demand.
Yarraman Park Stud as agent-consigned lot 131, a bay Bernardini colt out of the G1-winning Zabeel mare Dizelle, who is in turn out of the G1 winner Danelagh. A half-sister to Champion Hong Kong galloper Vengeance Of Rain and dual Listed-winning Elusive Quality mare Bernicia, Dizelle has had one foal to race, the Listed-winning Dizlago.
Knocked down to Darley for $500,000, a record price for a southern hemisphere yearling by his sire, the impressive bay colt can be viewed parading by clicking here.
Towards the end of the first day of selling, the Highgrove Stud-consigned lot 167, a chestnut Street Cry colt out of the Listed-winning Snippets mare Fragmentation was knocked down to Inglis as agent for $460,000.
A half-brother to G1 Newmarket Handicap winner Wanted and the G2-winning, G1-placed Shrapnel, the price recorded for this colt was an Australian record for Street Cry, the sire of Australian G1 winners Whobegotyou and Shocking.
Another Street Cry yearling to sell extremely well was the Brooklyn Lodge (as agent)-consigned lot 143. Out of the Hong Kong Derby winning mare Elegant Fashion, this brown filly was purchased by Hong Kong agent Apollo Ng for $330,000.
As not only the reigning Champion sire, but also the sire of this year’s G1 Golden Slipper winner Pierro, Lonhro’s progeny were always going to sell well. Early during the first session, the Willow Park Stud-consigned lot 65 was high on many people’s inspect lists. Out of the G3-winning Exceed And Excel mare Believe’n’succeed, this bay filly was purchased by Mr G Harding of New Zealand for $425,000.
With ten first-season sires having yearlings catalogued for the three day sale, both Authorized and New Approach had representatives go through the ring on day one. Lot 147 and 149, both by New Approach sold for $210,000 and $230,000 respectively, with the filly out of Endless Charm (lot 147), achieving the top priced paid for a filly by New Approach in Australia.
The lone yearling offered on the first day by Authorized, the Southern Cross Breeders-consigned lot 69, that also achieved a record price for his sire. Out of a half-sister to G1 winners Slavonic and Bedouin, the colt was knocked down to Paul Moroney Bloodstock for $130,000.
The second day of the sale commences tomorrow, Wednesday April 11.
