Warwickshire Oaks for La Arenosa
Exceed And Excel recorded his second Stakes winner in just three days on 17 June when his four-year-old daughter La Arenosa swept home to take the Warwickshire Oaks.
Settled towards the rear under Harry Bentley, the Saeed bin Suroor-trained filly began to make progress as the field turned for home and quickened impressively in the closing stages to win by three quarters of a length.
This was her third career victory and second at Stakes level, having won the Listed Grand Prix du Lion d’Angers en route to a second in the G3 Prix Andre Baboin while in the care of Andre Fabre last season.
Bred by Darley, she is out of the Listed winner Baranquilla, a half-sister to multiple Group winner Exaltation and Stakes winner Bustling – herself dam of G1 Deutsches Derby winner Buzzword.
Exceed And Excel has sired no fewer than 18 individual Stake winners so far in 2013, headed by G1-winning juveniles Guelph and Overreach. On Saturday, his smart sprinter Morawij added a second Black type win to his record when landing the Scurry stake at Sandown. He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 including GST.
