War Heroine made her first start on turf a winning one when she held off the late challenge of Ms Bad Behavior to win the six-and-a-half-furlong Sweet Life Stakes at Santa Anita.
It was the first Stakes win for the three-year-old daughter of Lonhro, who improved her record to two wins from three career starts.
Benefitting from a heady ride from jockey Tyler Baze, War Heroine broke alertly and was soon battling with Miss Puddles for the lead. The two fillies dueled through the early stages of the race, with War Heroine finally shaking loose as the field entered the homestretch. The talented filly then turned back the late challenge of Ms Bad Behavior to win the Sweet Life Stakes by a half-length.
Bred in Kentucky by Waymore LLC, War Heroine is out of the War Chant mare, War Tigress, winner of the Caressing Stakes.
Lonhro is the sire of 72 stakes winners and has an outstanding winners-to-runners ratio of better than 70 percent.
