Valid just that in Eight Miles West Stakes
Sent off as the even-money favorite, Valid (Medaglia d'Oro) captured his second win in a row, and fifth in 2014, in the Eight Miles West Stakes at Gulfstream Park West.
Comfortably looming just off the pace throughout the one-mile race, Valid found an opening along the rail at the top of the stretch and battled down the lane to prove best.
The four-year-old son of Medaglia d'Oro was also a winner of the G2 Monmouth Cup Stakes in July. A $500,000 yearling purchase at Keeneland September, Valid was bred by Evan P. Evans. A half-brother to G1 winner Malibu Prayer, he is out of the Stakes-winning mare Grand Prayer.
2014 continues to be an exciting year for Medaglia d'Oro at stud with promising runners such as well-bred Imperia, who broke his maiden in the G3 Pilgrim Stakes, and 12-length Monarchos Stakes winner Atreides. Winners at the highest level for the sire this year are G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Lochte and G1 Just A Game Stakes winner Coffee Clique. Among his most noteworthy runners lifetime are Horse Of The Year and Classic winner Rachel Alexandra, another G1 Kentucky Oaks winner in Plum Pretty, and G1-winning turf specialist Marketing Mix.
The sire of last week's Listed Breeders' Plate winner Vancouver as well as the exciting G3-winning colt Nostradamus, Medaglia d'Oro is standing the current Australian breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $55,000 (Inc. GST).
