The Lonhro filly Amercement raced up to her strong debut performance with a determined win in Saturday’s G3 Widden Stakes at Rosehill.
In a win which brought up a double for the Darley stallions in the two juvenile races on the Rosehill card, Amercement came from well off the pace to force her way between runners in the final strides to score narrowly.
The win followed that of McLaren (Exceed And Excel) in the G3 Canonbury Stakes.
Bred and raced by Godolphin, Amercement is out of the winning Commands mare Forfeiture, who was raced in Australia by Sheikh Mohammed.
Forfeiture, who won four races and was Stakes-placed, has had three foals to race and Amercement is her second winner.
Ridden by Brenton Avdulla, Amercement settled among the final few in the 10-horse field and had only marginally improved her position approaching the 200m.
Avdulla then coaxed a supreme effort from the filly who grabbed the lead 50m out and then survived a late challenge from the runner-up Rotator.
Amercement is Lonhro’s 80th Stakes winner.
