24 hours after impressive first-time-out winner Huamulan became the third this season for her sire Lonhro, Veewap scored at Geelong to take the freshman's tally to four.
Huamulan coped well with heavy ground at Canterbury, surging clear on the turn to win over 1250m by a length from King Thing, by fellow Darley sire Carnegie and Leave Now (Strategic). Veewap's win sparked a Darley-sired quinella, when he took out the 1100m contest by a short head from Nakeen, by Elusive Quality.
A $350,000 graduate of the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Huamulan is out of G2 winner and G1-placed Lady Mulan, who currently has a weanling colt by Commands, while Veewap, a $110,000 yearling purchase, is a son of the redoubtable Bletchingly matron Crowning Jewel, making him a half-brother Group winners So Gorgeous, Wild Queen and Cumbria.
Lonhro is also sire of Black Minx, winner of the Listed C E McDougall Stakes, and the Group-placed Minnesota Shark and Shadrach. He is currently lying in third place in the first-crop stallions' table behind Exceed And Excel and Falbrav, sire of Sheikh Mohammed's excting prospect Fravashi. Lonhro is standing at Denman, NSW, at a fee of $55,000 (inc GST).
