Totally Boss went from last-to-first to take the Kentucky Downs Preview Turf Sprint by a half-length at Ellis Park Aug. 4. The four-year-old gelding by Street Boss broke the seventeen-year-old course record when taking the five-and-a-half-furlong turf dash in 1:00.26.
Sent off as the favorite in the field of eleven, Totally Boss raced at the rear of the field through the early stages of the race. Turning for home, Totally Boss set his sights on the leaders, sweeping six-wide through the turn and into the stretch under jockey Florent Geroux. Totally Boss charged down the center of the course, reeling in last year’s winner, Jazzy Times, on his way to winning by a half-length.
Totally Boss was bred in Kentucky by Mike Pressley, and is out of Totally Tucker, a winning daughter of the late Darley stallion, Elusive Quality. Totally Tucker is a half-sister to Majestic Harbor, winner of the G1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita and G2 Alysheba Stakes. In addition to Totally Boss, Totally Tucker is the dam of Super Steed, winner of the 2019 G3 Southwest Stakes.
Totally Boss is the 34th Stakes winner for his sire Street Boss. In addition to Totally Boss, Street Boss is the sire of 2019 Stakes winner Lady Alida (Treasure Coast Stakes) and Graded Stakes-placed performers Social Paranoia (2nd, G1 Belmont Derby Invitational, 3rd, G2 American Turf Stakes) and Manhattan Up (2nd, G2 Lazaro Barrera Stakes).
