Third winner from four starters for Denman
Denman continued his outstanding start as a sire with two-year-old colt Pinch River becoming his fourth starter and third winner with a dead-heat victory in the QTIS two-year-old handicap over 1000m at Eagle Farm, November 2.
Trained by Robert Heathcote, Pinch River showed good speed and fought strongly in the straight to share first place on the line.
Bred by Peter Talty’s Millenium Thoroughbreds, Pinch River is the third foal of Catbird mare Avenue Girl whose granddam Derly was a half-sister to Detroit, the dam of multiple G1 winner and successful stallion Carnegie.
Prior to Pinch River’s victory, Denman’s first three runners to hit the track produced Listed Breeders’ Plate winner Law, Brisbane metropolitan winner Grapevine and Piacenza, a desperately unlucky third in the Listed Debutant Stakes at Caulfield last month.
Denman is standing the current breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $27,500 inc. GST alongside his sire Lonhro who stands at $88,000 inc. GST and his paternal half-brother Benfica ($6,600 inc. GST).
