Thermosphere, the first winner and first Stakes winner for her sire Exosphere, will likely become his first G1 Golden Slipper runner thanks to a storming win in Saturday’s G3 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill.
Having only her second start, Thermosphere showed speed, courage and tractability, jumping well from the gates before dropping back through the field and then being pushed wide in the first half of the race.
But when given clear running, she extended in the same powerful style of her sire to grab the lead with 150m to run and then hold on to beat Time Is Precious and Jemss, another member of Exosphere’s first crop.
As well as putting Exosphere onto the Stakes-winning list, the victory earned his daughter an automatic start in next weekend’s Golden Slipper, putting her on the same path as last year’s Magic Night winner Kiamichi (Sidestep) who went on to win the Slipper seven days later.
A Godolphin home-bred, Thermosphere is a daughter of the Stakes-winning Canny Lad mare Glows who also has a weanling colt by Exosphere who stands at Kelvinside, NSW.
