Sweet Seventeen was the newest two-year-old winner for Hard Spun September 10 taking her debut in a Maiden Special Weight at Laurel Park. The filly was the 16th winner for the sire who leads all US first-crop sires by winners.
The filly strategically settled well off the speedy pace in second. Entering the turn Sweet Seventeen gradually began to make up ground on the inside and cleared the advantage in the stretch for a sure victory.
Bred by John Oxley, the promising Sweet Seventeen is out of the Stakes winner and Graded-Stakes placed Saint Ballado mare Play Ballado.
Hard Spun is a G1 winning son of Danzig, an all-time great. His victories include the G1 King's Bishop Stakes and he also stretched out for impressive seconds in the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Breeders' Cup Classic. Among his current two-year-old runners is G2 winner Red Duke, Group-placed Questing, and Belmont Maiden Special Weight winner Artest, with many other winners to his credit also.
Hard Spun is currently standing at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
