Darley stallion Strategic sired his 20th individual Black type winner on 24 June, when his son Strat’s Flyer landed the $100,000 Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford.
Settled towards the rear under leading apprentice Daniel Ganderton, the five-year-old gelding flew home on the inside to win the 1200m contest by a length-and-a-half. Strat’s Flyer has now won on six occasions and has been placed a further 11 times.
Bred by F J Kelly Trust, Strat's Flyer is out of the Hennessy mare Scot's Flyer who is also dam of the Stakes-winning filly Bauble. Scot's Flyer is currently in foal to fellow Darley stallion and World Champion three-year-old Bernardini.
Strategic, who will stand at Darley’s Northwood Park Stud this season, is also sire of G1-winning trio Meurice, Mistegic and Strategic News, and a further seven Group winners. His fee for 2009 is $16,500 including GST.
