A determined effort by Standout to win Saturday’s Listed Heritage Stakes at Rosehill has left his sire Exceed And Excel only two short of his 2,000th victory as a stallion.
Standout made it three-from-three with a success that was his first at Stakes level and his sires 163rd.
After being restrained behind the pace early, Standout staked his claim at the 200m when jockey Tommy Berry drove him through the leading pack to take control and hold on strongly to defeat Cosmic Force.
The Darley-sired Pandemic (Sepoy">Sepoy) ran on well for third.
Standout was bred by George Altomonte who also bred and raced the colt’s brother, the G1 Golden Slipper winner Overreach.
They are among five winners from six to race from their dam Bahia.
Exceed And Excel is standing the current southern-hemisphere breeding season at Kelvinside, NSW.
