Slipper a perfect fit for Exceed And Excel
Heading into the $3.5million G1 Golden Slipper as the dominant favourite, Exceed And Excel filly Overreach did what many expected; she sat behind the leaders from her inside gate and proved too strong over the final section of the 1200m race, racing away to become the fifth G1 winner for her sire.
Overreach went on to defeat fellow Exceed And Excel juvenile Sidestep by a length-and-a-quarter with another Exceed And Excel two-year-old Guelph running home hard to take fourth. In winning the race, Overreach became the third consecutive G1 Golden Slipper winner sired by a Darley stallion after Elusive Quality colt Sepoy in 2011 and Champion Lonhro colt Pierro in 2012.
Bred by George Altomonte’s Corumbene Stud, Overreach is out of the unbeaten Snippets mare Bahia, a half-sister to Exceed And Excel’s G1 Blue Diamond winner Reward For Effort as well as the four-time Listed winner Consular. Bahia has a weanling full-brother to Overreach on the ground.
Having been represented earlier in the day by two-year-old colt Champollion who took out the G3 Schweppervescene, Exceed And Excel is now the sire of 68 Stakes winners worldwide with five individual G1 winners highlighted by Overreach’s close relation Reward For Effort, Darley’s triple G1 winner Helmet as well as Excelebration and Margot Did, both successful in the northern hemisphere.
With the 2013 Inglis Easter yearling sale set to commence on 9 April, Exceed And Excel will be represented by eight yearlings which can be viewed by clicking here.
