Sister Lou Ann made her three-year-old debut a winning one when she went wire-to-wire to post a one-and-a-quarter length victory in the Martha Washington Stakes over the Gulfstream Park turf course on Saturday, 11 June.
The daughter of Frosted notched her first Stakes win in the race, which was just her fourth career start. She had closed out her juvenile campaign with a promising second-place finish in the Wait a While Stakes over the same turf course last December.
Despite just making her first start of the year, Sister Lou Ann was sent off as the favorite in the field of seven and she didn’t disappoint, taking the lead right out of the starting gate and opening a one-length lead. She continued to hold her advantage until the top of the stretch, when she was briefly challenged by Saturday Nite Girl on her outside. Sister Lou Ann quickly spurted away and cruised through the stretch and crossed under the wire an easy winner.
Sister Lou Ann was bred in Kentucky and races as a homebred for Ken Ramsey. She is out of the Kitten’s Joy mare, Granny Mc’s Kitten, winner of the Listed P. G. Johnson Stakes and placed in the G3 Violet Stakes. Granny Mc’s Kitten is a full-sister to Kitten’s Dumplings, winner of the G1 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup and G2 Lake George Stakes, and to Granny’s Kitten, winner of the G3 Col. E. R. Bradley Handicap.
In addition to Sister Lou Ann, Frosted is the sire of Frosted Over, who was named Canada’s Champion 3-year-old male in 2021. After winning the G3 Ontario Derby last year, Frosted Over was most recently second in the G2 Stella Artois Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine. Frosted is also the sire of G2 winner Travel Column and G3 winners Ingratiating and Cloudy (both in Australia).
Frosted will stand the upcoming 2022 southern hemisphere season for a fee of $38,500, including GST, at Darley’s Northwood Park Farm in Victoria.
