If anything is predictable in racing it is that Exceed And Excel will sire the winners of feature sprints during Australia’s major racing carnivals – and Signore Fox made sure his sire maintained that record with victory in the G3 Star Kingdom Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday, 3 April.
Already one of Exceed and Excel’s 182 Stakes winners, Signore Fox turned in a typically tenacious performance to grind out the ninth victory of his career, his fourth at Stakes level and his first in a Group race.
Signore Fox travelled comfortably in a midfield position until jockey James McDonald found clear ground with 300m to run and the five-year-old did the rest.
With the race won at the 100m mark, Signore Fox cruised to the line a length-and-a-quarter clear of Wisdom Of Water with Roheryn (Lonhro) running on well for third.
Bred by Drakenstein Stud, Signore Fox is out of Sharp Susan, a G1 winner in America and a half-sister to another G1 winner in Spring At Last.
Offered by Coolmore at the 2017 Inglis Easter Sale in Sydney, Signore Fox made $300,000, being knocked down to his trainers Peter and Paul Snowden.
Exceed And Excel will stand again at Kelvinside, NSW, in 2021.
