Shakhimat took the lead right out of the starting gate and never looked back, eventually drawing off to win the Coronation Futurity by nine-and-three-quarter lengths at Woodbine Nov. 8.
It was the first Stakes victory for the two-year-old son of Lonhro, who improved his record to two wins from three career starts. Shakhimat is one of 12 Northern Hemisphere winners this season for his champion sire.
Bred in Ontario by Adena Springs, Shakhimat is out of Reggae Rose, a winning daughter of Touch Gold. Reggae Rose is a half-sister to Celtic New Year, winner of the G2 Del Mar Handicap, and hails from the immediate family of champion and multiple G1 winner, Perfect Sting.
Lonhro stands at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST), alongside his G1-winning sons Denman at a fee of $27,500 (inc. GST) and Benfica at $5,500 (inc. GST).
