Shakhimat made his sophomore debut a winning one with an impressive wire-to-wire victory in the G3 Transylvania Stakes at Keeneland.
The son of Lonhro, who captured the Coronation Futurity at Woodbine as a juvenile, now has won three of four career starts, and has stamped himself as a serious contender for Canada’s Queen’s Plate.
Bred in Ontario by Adena Springs, Shakhimat is out of Reggae Rose, a winning daughter of Touch Gold. Reggae Rose is a half-sister to Celtic New Year, winner of the G2 Del Mar Handicap, and hails from the immediate family of champion and multiple G1 winner, Perfect Sting.
Among Lonhro’s 60 career Stakes winners are seven G1 winners including another star three-year-old of this season Exosphere, as well as Denman, Benfica and Pierro.
