After 84 lots into the first day of the Inglis Easter yearling sale, Street Cry’s history-making three-time G1-winning son Street Sense, had eclipsed the highest price paid in the southern hemisphere for a yearling by him and ended the day as having the highest average for a first-season sire, and only second to Redoute's Choice overall for four or more sold.
Consigned by Attunga Stud, the bay colt is out of the Danehill Dancer mare Teralani, a full-sister to the Champion filly/mare Private Steer and is also a half-sister to dual G1 winner All Silent.
Knocked down to Blue Sky Thoroughbreds for $575,000, Bloodstock Manager Julian Blaxland stated that the colt was “one of the best movers on the ground.”
Crowned the Champion two-year-old of his year after a devastating victory in the G1 Breeder’s Cup Juvenile, Street Sense went on to claim the G1 Kentucky Derby during his classic season, and remains the only horse in history to ever do so.
Street Sense has a further 15 yearlings to sell over the remaining days of the sales with highlights including the Widden Stud-consigned lot 341, a three-quarter brother to the G1 Melbourne Cup–Australian Cup winner Shocking.
Later in the day, master trainer Bart Cummings went to $450,000 to secure lot 168, a bay or brown colt by Champion three-year-old Bernardini out of a full-sister to triple G1 winner Shamekha. This price also eclipses the highest priced paid so far in the southern hemisphere for the first-crop of the triple G1 winner.
