Street Boss recorded his second Stakes winner over Melbourne Cup week at Flemington when The Quarterback came with a withering run to win the Listed Dilmah Earl Grey Stakes over 1000m, November 5.
After settling last in the early stages, jockey Matthew Allen steered The Quarterback to the outside rail and the five-year-old showed exceptional acceleration to burst to the lead in the concluding stages and join Tuesday’s G3 winner Scarlet Billows as a Cup-week Stakes winner for his sire.
Bred by Gilgai Farm, The Quarterback, who won the Listed Kensington Stakes over the same course in January, is out of the winning Encosta de Lago mare Soorena, who is also the dam of G2 winner Philippi and the Stakes-placed The Rude Warrior.
The Quarterback is one of 20 Stakes winners for Street Boss whose best Australian-bred progeny included star filly Petits Filous and G1-performed juvenile Street Rapper, while he is the sire of G1 winners Capo Bastone and Danza in America.
Street Boss is standing at Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 inc. GST.
