Second Stakes victory for Just Discreet
Racing first-up, five-year-old Exceed And Excel mare Just Discreet continued a great family tradition of black-type success, achieving her second Stakes win with victory in the G3 Spring Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville on August 10.
A previous winner of the Listed Matrice Stakes over 1300m at the same course, the Phillip Stokes-trained mare sat off the pace set by the eventual runner up, the four-year-old Ad Valorem mare Meliora, before over powering her to record a dominant length-and-a-half win.
Bred by David Peacock, Just Discreet is out of the Stakes placed Bluebird mare Oh So Discreet, a half-sister to the G3 winners Gilded Angel, Be Discreet and She’s Discreet (dam of Listed winners I’m Discreet and Very Discreet) as well as the Listed winners My Advocator and Oahu. The dam of not only Just Discreet, but Shamardal’s G1 winner Maybe Discreet, Oh So Discreet has a Commands two-year-old colt that was sold as a yearling for $425,000 to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, as well as a yearling colt by Champion sire Lonhro.
Crowned the Champion Sire of the 2012/13 racing season, Exceed And Excel was represented by the winners of all three legs of the Two-year-old Triple Crown through the deeds of exciting fillies Overreach and Guelph.
The sire of 71 stakes winners internationally, Exceed And Excel is set to stand the coming southern hemisphere breeding season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $88,000 (inc. GST) or you can make a "Bid For Glory" and register to be part of Darley's online auction where a 2013 nomination to Exceed And Excel is being auctioned.
