Teofilo’s son Happy Clapper stormed home to claim the G3 Newmarket Handicap over 1400m at Newcastle on 17 March. This is the second victory in Group company for the talented gelding, who is on track to run the G1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick.
Trained by Patrick Webster, Happy Clapper jumped well and settled third as fellow Darley-sired gelding Chetwood (Exceed And Excel) set a solid pace. Travelling wide at the top of the straight he powered home to claim a dominant three-and-a-half length victory.
A homebred for Michael Thomas, Happy Clapper is out of race-winning Encosta De Lago mare Busking, a daughter of Stakes producer Winifred’s Prayer, who is the dam of dual Stakes winner Thankgodyou’rehere.
Happy Clapper is the second Group winner for Teofilo in under a week, with Australian Cup Hero Humidor claiming his maiden G1 victory last Saturday. He is one of 32 Group winners for his sire, joining G1 top performers Kermadec, Palentino, Special Fighter and Quest For More.
