The second day of Glorious Goodwood saw the speediest juveniles line up in the G3 Molecomb Stakes and the five-furlong contest was won in emphatic style by Exceed And Excel’s son Yalta.
Soon in front under James Doyle, the Mark Johnston-trained colt was still in front entering the final furlong and moved further and further clear in the closing stages, eventually winning by three lengths. He set a new juvenile course record in the process.
Yalta won at Goodwood on his racecourse debut back in May, before recording a four-and-a-half-length victory at Pontefract next time out. He could now be aimed at the G1 Nunthorpe Stakes, due to take place at York on Friday 19 August.
Yalta is out of the Stakes-placed Elusive Quality mare Lacily, herself a daughter of three-time G1 winner Lailani.
Exceed And Excel has now sired 25 individual Black type performers worldwide in 2016, including G1 winner Flamberge and fellow Group winners Calliope, Yattarna and Morawij.
