Two-year-old colt Rebel Call became the latest Stakes winner for his sire Exceed And Excel with victory in the Listed Perth Stakes over 1100m at Ascot.
A winner of three trials in preparation for his race debut, the colt jumped well from the barriers and sat in behind the speed, before sprouting wings in the concluding stages to capture the leader and race to victory by a half head.
Bred by Rothwell Park, Rebel Call was sold as a weanling for $160,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, and is out of the Stakes-placed mare Terrenora, a daughter of Encosta de Lago.
Exceed And Excel has made a great start to 2011 with another three Stakes winners in Australia – Chinchilla, Canali and Anevay – plus a Listed winner in the UK courtesy of recent Cleves Stakes winner Waveband. Other black-type horses include Friday’s G2 Sportingbet Fillies' Classic runner-up Always Discreet and Electric Waves, who was placed in the recent G3 UAE Oaks in Dubai.
