The progressive three-year-old Promotions continued the superlative weekend form of his sire Exceed And Excel with victory in the Listed Canberra Guineas on Monday, 9 March.
For Promotions the win was his second from nine career starts and opened the door to further Stakes opportunities over the coming weeks of the Sydney autumn carnival.
For Exceed And Excel it followed the G1 success of Bivouac in Saturday’s Newmarket Handicap at Flemington and that of the two-year-old filly Minhaaj in the G3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes at the same meeting.
Promotions enjoyed a perfect run before being called on at the 300m to go after the leader Chat, overhauling that horse in the final 50m to win narrowly, but comfortably.
The gelding is the first foal of the Street Cry mare Transfers, a winner of four races.
Promotions becomes the 168th Stakes winner for Exceed And Excel who stood his most recent southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW, and shuttled to Kildangan Stud in Ireland for his latest northern hemisphere season.
