Exceed And Excel recorded a new Black Type winner on Monday, 11 June when his three-year-old daughter Spaday demonstrated an impressive turn of foot to land the Listed Prix Marchand d’Or, run over six and a half furlongs at Maisons-Laffitte.
Settled towards the rear of the field under Maxime Guyon, Spaday travelled well throughout and once asked to quicken, soon moved up to take the lead and won by a length and a quarter.
Spaday won on her second start last October, before finishing fourth in the G3 Prix Miesque the following month. Today’s win was her second victory of 2018, having landed the Prix de la Plaine de France on Wednesday, 2 May.
A homebred for Wertheimer et Frere, Spaday is out of the Stakes-winning Bering mare Beautifix, who is now dam of an impressive four Black Type winners from five foals to race. She is also dam of G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere second and G3 Prix La Rochette winner Sofast.
Exceed And Excel has now sired 25 individual Black Type performers this year, headed by Group-winning quartet Heavy Metal, Folkswood, Performer and James Garfield.
