Princess Arabella crowned in Sunland Park Oaks
Any Given Saturday's highly regarded three-year-old daughter Princess Arabella remained undefeated March 25 in the Sunland Park Oaks with a dominant victory by eight lengths. In the 1700m race Princess Arabella, who went off at a heavy 1-5, dashed to the early lead to set the pace under a strong hold. The filly maintained advantage throughout and went wire-to-wire for the extremely impressive victory. Hard Spun's Glinda The Good finished a good second.
Princess Arabella was a TDN RIsing Star on debut December 31 with a strong victory at Santa Anita by three and one-half lengths. She followed that start with a seven furlong score on February 12. Trainer Bob Baffert has commented “I think Princess Arabella’s going to be better than Plum Pretty," referring to Medaglia d'Oro's G1 Kentucky Oaks-winning daughter who also took the Sunland Park Oaks in 2011. The two fillies share similar connections in owner Peachtree Stables.
Bred by Greenwich Cattle Company, Princess Arabella is out of Tortuga Lady, by Thunder Gulch. She is also the dam of Stakes winner and multiple Graded-placed Dyna's Lassie. Tortuga Lady is a half-sister to Invisible Ink, who placed in the G1 Kentucky Derby.
Any Given Saturday is the sire of two Stakes winners thus far in his first crop. His daughter Sunday's Child was a winner of the Sarah Lane's Oates Stakes at Fair Grounds in March. The son of Distorted Humor was a fantastic winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational, and his first crop of runners show lots of promise with the exciting filly Princess Arabella.
