Lonhro's multiple Stakes-winning gelding Pinwheel, returned from a short let up on Januray 14 to record an impressive victory in the Listed Canterbury Classic pver 1100m at Canterbury. The victory gave Lonhro the second highest number of Stakes winners so far this season behind fellow Darley stallion Commands.
Jumping from one of the outside barriers, jockey Kerrin McEvoy allowed five-year-old gelding Pinwheel to settle behind the suicidal pace being set up front by Keen Commander.
Once the field turned for home, Pinwheel came to the outside of the field and flew at a rate of knots to win his second Stakes race by three parts of a length. In the process, Pinwheel broke the class record and was just 0.15 seconds off the track record which has been held for eight years.
With an overall record of seven wins and seven second places from 16 starts, Pinwheel personifies the consistency that the progeny of his 11-time G1-winning sire possess.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Pinwheel is the first Stakes winner for his dam Quilt (Danehill) and comes from the family of G1 performers Charming City, West Point, Kenvain, Antique and Imperial Baron.
With the Magic Millions yearling sale continuing on Saturday at the Gold Coast, the five remaining yearlings by Lonhro catalogued are sure to be in high demand.
