First-season sire Helmet didn’t have to wait long for his first European winners and they arrived in quick succession on Saturday 26 March when Boater and Chupalla, both trained by Mark Johnston, won both divisions of Kempton’s fillies Maiden.
First to strike was Boater, who despite slightly missing the kick was soon on the lead travelling strongly before quickening right away in the straight to win by seven lengths.
A Darley homebred, she is a daughter of the Storm Cat mare Cercle d’Amour, who is a half-sister to three Stakes winners including the Norfolk Stakes winner Warm Heart.
Half-an-hour later and in a carbon copy of the first division, Chupalla never saw another rival, quickening clear to win by six lengths in a time faster than the first division. Again bred by Darley, she is out of the Seeking The Gold mare Dubai Sunrise, a full-sister to Champion Dubai Millennium.
Helmet, a son of Exceed And Excel, was a dual G1-winning juvenile who trained on to win the G1 Caulfield Guineas in a record time.
