Three-year-old Lonhro colt Old North finished powerfully to claim the G2 Tulloch Stakes over 2000m at Rosehill 26 March, becoming the 60th Stakes winner for his sire and announcing himself as a serious G1 ATC Derby contender in seven days.
After settling midfield on the rails in the early stages, jockey James McDonald rode for luck turning for home and he was rewarded with a saloon passage up the inside. Old North dashed to the lead with 200m remaining and careered away for a brilliant victory.
Bred by Darley, Old North is the second foal out of Stakes-winning Elusive Quality mare Bernicia, a half-sister to Hong Kong Champion Vengeance Of Rain and G1 Australian Oaks winner Dizelle.
Among Lonhro’s 60 career Stakes winners are seven G1 winners including another star three-year-old of this season Exosphere, as well as Denman, Benfica and Pierro.
Lonhro has seven yearlings entered for next month’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and they can be viewed by clicking here.
