Exceed And Excel, current leading sire of two-year-olds in Great Britain and Ireland with 15 juvenile winners to his name already this year, saw one of his youngsters successfully step up to Listed class on 25 July when Nideeb landed a thrilling renewal of the Winkfield Stakes on King George day at Ascot.
Settled towards the rear of the field under jockey Ryan Moore, Nideeb began to make headway two furlongs from home. Laying down his challenge a furlong out, he battled superbly with Party Doctor and eventually took the seven furlong contest by a nose, with Navajo Chief (King's Best) nine lengths back in third place. Incidentally, this was the race in which Raven's Pass gained his first Stakes win back in 2007.
Trained by Clive Brittain, Nideeb broke his maiden just eleven days ago – winning a seven furlong maiden at Yarmouth by five lengths. He will now enjoy a break before returning to the Berkshire course in September for the G2 Royal Lodge Stakes.
Bred by Rabbah and owned by Saeed Manana, he is out of the unraced In The Wings mare Mantesera. The dam is herself a daughter of the great broodmare Lucayan Princess, dam of four Group winners in Warrsan, Luso, Needle Gun and Cloud Castle. Mantesera has a yearling colt by Shirocco and a colt foal by Manduro.
Also at Ascot, first-season sire Dubawi recorded his first Black type performer when Godolphin’s Sand Vixen put up a creditable performance to take third in the G3 Princess Margaret Stakes. Dubawi only yesterday notched up his tenth individual winner when Admire The View broke her maiden by an outstanding seven lengths.
